Below are the basic requirements for the Instrument Rating.

Requirements

· Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate
· Pass a required knowledge test
· Pass a required Practical test
· Log 50 hours of cross country time
· Log a total of 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time with at least 15 of those hours with a certified instrument flight instructor

During the preparation for the Instrument rating, you will receive instruction in the following areas:
· Preflight preparation and procedures
· Air traffic control clearances and procedures
· Flight by reference to instruments
· Navigation systems
· Instrument approach procedures
· Emergency operations
· Post flight procedures for preparation of the knowledge test is available.
